Using a Backup File

Problem

A model (or drawing) is corrupted. The most recent intact version is in a backup file. How do I use the backup?

Solution

  1. Determine the file path of the original model file.

  2. In G4, go to File → This program version → shared (this opens File Explorer to G4’s shared folder). This will show you where the files are stored on the drive.

  3. Open the original model in G4.

  4. Open the model card on screen via Archive → Information.

  5. Check if there is a project code in the Project field and make a note of it.

  6. Close the original model (do not save).

  7. Open the safe backup file on screen.

  8. Save the safe backup from G4 directly to the correct folder on the drive.

  9. Verify the shared folder path in File Explorer.

  10. Use File → Save as new → Save as.

  11. For Destination, select either the project folder or picts, meaning under the shared path in projects/project_name or picts.

  12. Use the original model’s file name when saving.
