Background
Users may occasionally encounter situations where a 3D model exists only in the form of a 3D PDF file, and there is no actual 3D model available in a proper transfer file format.
The first option is to start modeling the part or assembly from scratch. However, this is a time-consuming process and modeling errors in such a case pose a risk.
Nevertheless, there may be a need to include the given model as part of a larger assembly (e.g., layout).
Below are the steps to import a 3D PDF file as a surface model into Vertex G4.
Steps
-
In the first step, you have a 3D PDF file that you want to convert into a format that Vertex G4 can understand.
-
Upload the same file to a free conversion service:
Acrobat 3D PDF to Wavefront OBJ: online Acrobat 3D PDF to Wavefront OBJ converter for free -
Convert the 3D PDF file to OBJ format and save it to a desired folder on your computer.
-
Then open Vertex G4 and go to "File" > "Open File"
-
Locate the saved OBJ file and load it into Vertex G4.
-
In the import settings, select "Import as assembly" and "Add outlines".
-
By default, the scale factor is 1.
-
If the model is not imported at the correct scale, measure a known dimension in the model and re-import the model scaled accordingly.
-
The model will also include separate parts.
