The browser does not display a model, drawing, or a newly archived component, feature, or symbol. Or the entire browser appears to have disappeared.

Browser Usage and Tips

Basic usage

  • You can toggle the browser on or off with the B key.

  • If the pin in the top right corner of the browser points left , the browser closes immediately after making a selection. This is useful if the browser is maximized to full screen and you are fetching a model or drawing from the archive for editing.

  • If the pin points down , the browser stays open on the desktop even after a selection is made. This is useful if the browser is docked at the edge and you are adding parts and components to an assembly.

Searching with filters

  • You can type a string into the top field. Pressing the arrow key will search all fields (model ID and three description fields).

  • Clicking the magnifying glass restricts the search to the ID field only (model or drawing name).

  • History shows recently opened items.

  • Under Projects, you can search for projects or view the active project or all projects. Once a project is selected, you can view its models and drawings.

  • Under Documents, you’ll find project-specific lists for models and drawings, which you can browse.

  • Selecting Model or Drawing opens a search card where you can enter archive search criteria.

  • Under Libraries, you can access symbols, components, etc.

Views

  • You can change the browser view via the context menu → View. Views are group-specific, e.g. the model menu may have a different view than the drawing menu.

  • Example: the browser detached from the edge, showing List and details view.

Actions for a selected object

  • Double-clicking a file icon opens it in its own window by default.

  • Single-clicking lets you open the context menu to:

    • Add the model to the active assembly

    • Delete the model from the archive (removes the model and its archive data)

    • View model/drawing archive data

  • NOTE: You can also add a part, assembly, or component to an assembly by dragging the selected object a few centimeters.

Reported Issues

Component, feature, or symbol added to the library is not visible in the browser?

  • For performance reasons, the browser does not update after every library addition, so it may “lag behind.”

  • Use the context menu → Refresh browser.

Models or drawings not visible at all in the browser?

  • Some users have accidentally dragged the browser away from the edge and then resized it too small, hiding the files.

  • Grab the window’s right edge and drag it larger.

Browser not visible at all

  • Reported cases exist where the browser cannot be brought up with the B key, nor does it appear after restarting the program.

Cause: The browser was dragged too narrow to notice, or even off-screen.

Solutions:

  1. Close other application windows and look for “odd or extra” edges on the screen or Vertex desktop, then drag the browser larger or back into view.

  2. Go to the View tab and check that the browser you want is listed under the Browsers group. If available, select Open browsers. (This option appears only if at least one listed browser is hidden.) If that doesn’t restore it, select Default position to reset all non-hidden browsers to their default size and location.

  3. If the above fails and you’re willing to lose the browser’s history list:

    • Close Vertex.

    • Delete the file windows.xy (or at least its last lines starting with “EC:embedded_container...”) from the Vertex home directory (e.g. vxg4/user).

    • Delete all *.xml files in the browsers folder (e.g. vxg4/user/browsers). The program will recreate them as needed.
