Model (SW)
Purpose of use
A 3D model is a graphical, three-dimensional representation of a real-world part or assembly. Various formats of 3D models can be stored in Flow. There is a specific object type reserved for models in G4 and SW (SolidWorks) formats. In this text, the models produced with the SolidWorks software are specifically referred to. A model (SW) is almost always linked to an item, and related work drawings are also associated with the model. Thus, the model, item, and drawing are all interconnected. The model card can store the necessary metadata, but in practice, it is often sufficient to thoroughly complete the metadata for the related item, as models in SolidWorks are usually accessed starting from the item or item structure.
Functions
General functions
Objects are searched, added and processed in the same way as all other objects. Note, however, that editing a model requires a SolidWorks software license. It is highly recommended to open the item in SolidWorks because it ensures that both the item is activated and the model's graphics open in the SolidWorks display simultaneously, and the item structure updates correctly when returned to Flow.
