Drawing (other)

Purpose of use

Drawings are created with CAD software, such as Vertex G4 or SolidWorks. A drawing is two-dimensional and usually generated automatically from a 3D model or assembly, but the designer has the option to create a drawing without a 3D model. A drawing includes projections chosen by the designer from the model and provides the necessary information for manufacturing.

In Vertex Flow, there is a dedicated object type for drawings in G4 format, another for SolidWorks drawings, and separately, a third object type reserved for drawings from other CAD software. The object type “Drawing (other)” object is reserved for drawings that are not in G4 or SolidWorks format. This way, the user can save such drawings as objects in Flow, but still recognize them as drawings, as opposed to other documents.

Tools

Working with the drawing (other) object occurs solely in the browser since users typically don't have CAD software for handling that format. The tools are largely identical to the ones used for the drawing-objects and thus are related to editing metadata, performing workflow operations or adding connections to other objects. Bulk editing of drawing (other) data can be done through the Trolley. Mass transfer of drawing (other) objects is performed using the import and export tool.
