5. Structural Steel Connections



Base plates

  • We can add base plates and other connection to steel posts/columns and beams. 


  • In 'Modelling' tab click on the ‘Joint ‘icon and from the drop-down menu  select ‘Connection Details’.


  • Go to  ‘Hot Rolled’ → ‘Base Plates’ folder. Click on the ‘(0105) Base Plate L (2 holes)


  • Pay attention to the instructions at the bottom left corner of the vertex window.  
  • Vertex prompts you to select column. Right click and click on OK to confirm


  • Vertex prompts you to 'Pick plate bottom height'.  As you select the base of column. 'Plate Properties' dialog opens. 
  • Adjust the Plate properties setting in the dialogue box as shown and click on OK.


  • Click on the green arrows directly to change L base plate direction to suit. Right click and click on OK to confirm. 

 



  • Press ESC to exit the command.
  • Now you can see the base plate have been added to the column.

  

Beam to Beam connection

  • In 'Modelling' tab click on the ‘Joint ‘icon and from the drop-down menu  select ‘Connection Details’.
  • Go to  ‘Hot Rolled’ → ‘Face Plate’ folder. Click on the ‘(0602) PFC Beam to PFC Beam (Corner)


  • Pay attention to the instructions at the bottom left corner of the vertex window.  
  • Vertex prompts you to Left click on the 1st Beam end, right click and OK, Left click on other beam end, Right click on OK to confirm


  • Adjust the Plate properties setting in the dialogue box as shown and click on OK.


  • Press ESC to exit the command.
  • Now you can see the top plate have been added to the column.


Column to Beam connection

  • In 'Modelling' tab click on the ‘Joint ‘icon and from the drop-down menu  select ‘Connection Details’.
  • Go to  ‘Hot Rolled’ → ‘Face Plate’ folder. Click on the ‘(0622) Column to Corner Beams



  • Pay attention to the instructions at the bottom left corner of the vertex window.  
  • Vertex prompts you to Left click on the column. Left click on each beam end, Right click on OK to confirm


  • Adjust the Plate properties setting in the dialogue box as shown and click on OK.


  • Press ESC to exit the command.
  • Now you can see the top plate have been added to the column.
