Revisions

Revisions act like stored versions of the object. The system guarantees that the old revision remains as it was when the new revision was created. The old revision cannot be changed, but you can open and copy it.

All objects can be revised. The user has an opportunity to prevent the creation of a new revision. In such a case, all changes made to the object must be made to the current revision overwriting it.

If the object is locked, you can make a new revision of it and continue working with the new revision.

When to use revisions?

Typically, a building progresses in the workflow to the state when manufacturing begins and finally the building is handed over to the customer.

After the start of manufacturing, the model can no longer be edited, because it serves as a document of the building as it was at the time of manufacturing. Sometimes, especially in the case of bigger multi-storey blocks of flats, the design must be updated even when the building is already under construction on site. Let's take an example where a 2-bedroom flat is designed as a separate sub-model used on each floor. During construction of the third floor some components must be changed due to challenges in global component supply.

This said, you can make a new revision of the flat model. The old revision is kept secured and it still describes the 2-bedroom flat as it was on the first and second floor.

When you save a new revision, you can describe the changes with a few words explaining why you made a new revision. In this case simply add comment that component was changed and modifications to structures needed were made.

Revision format

Sync has three built in revision formats to choose from. Read more about revision formats on System Settings.
