Lock

Lock (ON/OFF): When you turn on the lock, no one can overwrite your object, but you can still revise it if the revise lock is off. You cannot lock an object that is reserved by another user.

Tip: Using the Object Lock

Purpose: Locking objects safeguards the latest revision from unintended modifications.

When to Use:

  • After completing a project or finalising a building design.

  • When changes are not desired or permitted, but creating a new revision is unnecessary.

Benefits:

  • Prevents accidental changes to the latest revision.

  • Ensures any required updates are made in a new revision, maintaining the integrity of the original design.

How it Works:

  • Locking an object means any change requests must be incorporated into a new revision.

  • This feature ensures the latest revision remains protected and unaltered.

Revise lock

Revise lock (ON/OFF): When you turn on the revise lock, no one can revise your object, but they can overwrite it if the object is not locked or reserved by another user.

Tip: Using the Revise Lock

Purpose: The revision lock prevents users from creating new revisions by mistake, ensuring all modifications are made to the current revision.

When to Use:

  • During the design phase, before plans have reached the agreed stage of completion.

  • When unnecessary revisions are not desired, as revisions denote final approved changes or updates to a document.

Benefits:

  • Prevents accidental creation of new revisions.

  • Ensures all changes are made within the current revision, maintaining the integrity of the design process.

How it Works:

  • Revision locking ensures that any modifications must be done in the current revision.

  • This feature helps maintain control over the design process by preventing unnecessary revisions.

Reservation

Reservation (user/OFF): When you reserve an object, only you can overwrite it. You cannot reserve an object that is locked by another user.
