Which version do I have?
You can find Vertex software version at the top bar of the running application e.g. Vertex BD 2025 / 31.0.16.
The first number of the software version (31) tells the major version, the second (0) intermediate version and the third (16) is the service pack number.
Things to remember when executing major version upgrade
Compatibility of file formats between versions
You cannot read models or drawings created or edited with newer major versions in older major versions.
Co-operation
If you work with other Vertex users or your principal has Vertex and you provide them models and / or drawings, you should agree on a common date for the upgrade.
Vertex BD and DesignStream
Vertex BD 2026 (32.0) is compatible with Vertex DS 2021. New major version of Vertex Design Stream (DS) will not be released. Support and maintenance of the Vertex DS will continue in the future for many years to come. To configure Vertex DS 2021 (21.0.x) to work with Vertex BD version 32.0, contact Vertex BD support (https://vertexcad.com/technical-support/). When upgrading Vertex BD, Vertex DS will be configured to work with the new version.
Software Licensing
You may need a new license for the Vertex BD upgrade.
Find out which technique is used to manage the Vertex software licenses in your company.
Older licensing methods, such as HASP keys and Virtual IDs, will require an updated license file for each major version.
Refer to the installation instructions for software licensing procedures
Network Server vs Single installation
If Vertex Sync or Vertex DesignStream is not in use, companies with more than one Vertex BD license should use the network server installation so all designers can work with common models, drawings, and libraries if needed.
When using a network server, both the major version upgrades and service pack updates should be run on the network server, not on the workstations.
Workstations will update from the network server at the next re-start.
Upgrade Instructions

Full installation packages are exe files named after the software version e.g.:

You can either install a the Vertex version, upgrade the previous version or update the current version with the installation package.

These updates are for internal patching of the current version. These cannot upgrade an old major version, and should never be used on a different major version than intended.
