The file associated with the object

General

An object can be associated with files, for example, a Document object may be associated with a docx file created with Word, or a Template object may be associated with a vxm file created with Vertex G4.

  • These attachments are automatically managed in Flow, and the Connections > Show/Add/Delete functions in Flow are not used for them.

  • These attachments are visible under the Files section at the bottom of the object card.

An object can be associated with multiple files: one main file and additional files.

  • The main file is the file format generated by the application used to create that file.

  • Other files are automatically generated for viewing purposes, such as PDF files.

Main file

The main file is the file format generated by the application used to create that file, for example:

  • A model file from Vertex G4, with the extension .vxm, e.g., 15600.vxm

  • A drawing file from Vertex G4, with the extension .vxp, e.g., 15600.vxp

  • A Word document file, with the extension .docx, e.g., Memo2013_1.docx

  • and various other file formats.

Other files

Other files are automatically generated, usually intended for viewing or translated for other systems, for example:

  • A generic (Adobe Acrobat) viewing file, with the extension .pdf, e.g., Memo2013_1.pdf

  • A drawing translated into DXF format, with the extension .dxf, e.g., 15600.dxf

  • A model translated into STEP format, with the extension .stp, e.g., 15600.stp

  • and various other file formats.
