Import an IFC Model Far From the Origin

For fluent design, the geometry of the model should always be as close as possible to the origin of the model. Sometimes, however, the geometry of an imported IFC model is far from the origin, and the design should be done at the location determined by the imported IFC model. This article explains how an IFC model far from the origin should be imported into the building model, and how to export the designed model to an IFC file so that the geometry is placed at the origin of the imported IFC model.

Import the IFC Model

When you import the IFC model to the building model, select the location option IFC model origin is positioned on selected point. The IFC geometry minimum at the bottom of the dialog box means the minimum point of a rectangle (the x, y, and z coordinates are the smallest) that contains the origins of all IFC objects in the model. To place this point at the Vertex origin, click To origin.

The coordinates are updated in the IFC model origin is positioned on selected point coordinate fields.

This way you can import the IFC geometry at or near the origin of the Vertex model.

Export the Model to an IFC File

When you export the designed model to an IFC file, you can move the geometry to the origin of the original IFC model by selecting the Origin of imported IFC model option.
