10. Generate NC Output files for production


  • After the user have completed the design of the building and have created panel drawings then the CSV files can be generated for production. 

  • In 'Output' tab click on 'NC Output' icon  and from the drop down menu  click on 'Light Gauge Steel CSV'

  • If you have made any changes to panel and forgot to update the panel drawing you will notice  an asterisk ' * ' alongside panel number in wall layout.

  • You will also notice an asterisk ' * ' in the 'Status' column for that panel, which means the drawing for for that panel need to be updated.

  • So click on 'Quit' to exit the dialog box.

How to Update panel drawing


  • Did you noticed the asterisk along with panel number ( as shown in E1* ) in ground floor layout also indicates that the drawing has not been updated.

  • Select the wall either in 3D or 2D view. 

  • Right click and from the contextual menu click on 'Create Panel Drawing'

  • Click on 'Update'

  • Vertex opens the panel drawing and updates it.

  • Close the panel drawing.

  • Click on 'Yes' to save the changes in panel drawing.

  • If you go back to 'Ground floor wall framing' layout, you will notice that the asterisk by the  E1 have disappeared. Since the panel drawing for 'E1' have been updated.

Generate NC Output files for production



  • Again In 'Output' tab click on 'NC Output' icon  and from the drop down menu  click on 'Light Gauge Steel CSV'

  • In this case we are going to select E1 ( hold the Shift key ) now select  E10

  • Click on 'Select'. Now you can see panel E1, E2 and E6 to E10 have been selected.

  • Click on 'Write Output'

  • If there are any errors or warning then vertex will prompt you to choose the format that you want the 'Errors and 'Warnings' to be open with.

  • Select  'Notepad' and click on OK.


  • Warning’ message is something that Vertex thinks should be investigated but not necessarily a problem with the panel.

  • ‘Error’ message is a panel issue that needs to be resolved. Otherwise vertex will prevent you from generating NC Output file for that particular panel/s.

  • Once you have fixed all errors again in 'Output' tab click on 'NC Output' icon  and from the drop down menu  click on 'Light Gauge Steel CSV'


  • Select from E1, E2 and E6 to E10.


  • Click on 'OPEN'

  • Now you can see the CSV files have been generated in Notepad++. Since i have set Notepad++ as default for my CSV files.

  • NC output files generally get saved to Shared \ Project \ Project name \ Nc folder.  Which can then be copped to USB drive to transfer to the machine for production.
